Welcome to my portfolio, I’m René Schouten, an enthusiastic software developer. I like to solve engineering puzzles that require creativity and dedication to be solved. I’m looking for puzzles mainly in the field of embedded systems, where I combine my software engineering skills with electronics, algorithms, mathematics.
Over the years I have worked on numerous projects. On this portfolio you will find some projects which I did during my study of applied computer science. I’ve been working on these projects with enthusiasm, trying to make something that not just works, but I aimed to make something more convenient and good enough to be proud of.
I have written quite some software for embedded systems, for example on STM32, ESP32, MPS432 , Nordic MCUs and ATmega MCUs. I’ve worked with the different platforms, and for some of them I had to do some work on register level. For more general software development, I have been using Java and C++ (Qt). Besides software engineering, I’ve spent quite some time developing hardware. Over the years I have made several PCB designs for work and projects.

I have been contrubuting to the hack the poacher project. This is a non-profit project to help preventing poaching of rhinos using smart poacher detection technology. I have been working on a custom LoRa mesh network for the poacher sniffers.
After 2 years of work on production of the NENASim baby simulator, I started developing embedded hardware and software for the ADAM-X patient simulator.
At Medical-X I have contributed to the production of the NENASim baby simulator.
